Flower: pink/purple-ish flowers cover branches and stems in April; flowers at young age (~ 4 yrs. old)

Fall color: dark reddish

Seasonal interest: heart-shaped leaves; spring flowers; interesting irregular branching pattern

Sustaining wildlife: host of Henry Elfin’s butterfly; provides nectar for butterflies; seeds eaten by songbirds, including chickadees
